A short chat with John Terry (I am the new captain for England)
It is now official. John Terry is the new England captain after Beckham stepped down after the World Cup. A new captain was always necessary after McClaren made it clear that he does not prefer Beckham as the captain. With so many option in the England squad, it must have been a tough decision for McClaren. Let's see what John Terry has to say on the good news.
CrazyGuru : Hello John
John Terry : Hello CG. How are you?
CG : Fine...fine....I have to congratulate you on the captaincy. How are you feeling?
JT : UNBELIEVABLE!!! It is just unbelievable. I mean....I am now the captain of the England team. It is a dream come true.
CG : Ya. I guess so too. It must have been tough. The selection wasn't easy. The contention list has Gerrard, Neville, Lampard, Ferdinand. So many of them could have been the captain.
JT : Ya. It was really tough.
CG : So, what do you think is the thing that makes you stand out from the rest?
JT : Um.....for the fact that I played for Chelsea.
CG : What do you mean?
JT : Kind of long story, McClaren called me up one of those day and says that I am been shortlisted as a candidate for the captaincy, which of course is not something surprising. Then he says that he wants me to come down to his office to sit for a test along with the other candidates. Gerrard will be there, Neville, Lampard and Ferdinand. So, I just go lah.
CG : ok....
JT : At the office, McClaren explained to us that the test will be use to determine the captaincy for England. It was really simple one, actually three questions only. Everytime someone answer the wrong one, he will be eliminated immediately.
CG : And what were they?
JT : Ok, first question, how badly do you want to captaincy role? Very badly or I will like it. Of course, I choose, "Very badly" and I think the rest also choose the same, so no one got eliminated in this round.
CG : Ok, the second question?
JT : Second question was, will you prefer to play in a defensive or attacking role for England. Gerrard and Lampard chose attacking. McClaren says that the correct answer is defensive, so Gerrard was kicked out in that round. McClaren explained that the correct answer is defensive because the captain must be prepared to defend England. Stupid but anyway, I got it right.
CG : ??? Ok, next one.
JT : The third question was, if Chelsea and Man United have the highest point and were tied on points, who will finish at the top of the table. Instinctly, I chose Chelsea while Ferdinand and Neville says that it will be a tie.
CG : Seems like Ferdinand and Neville got it right.
JT : Ya, but then McClaren announced that the correct answer is Chelsea and proclaimed me the captain of England. The whole room was stunned. You can see the FA officials scratching their head. Neville and Ferdinand contested the outcome. It was a mad house then, as the FA officials have to restrained those two guys from confronting McClaren.
CG : Wah.....
JT : After about 10mins, everybody settled down and McClaren explained that when two teams have the same number of points, their position will be decided by the alphabetic ranking of the team's name. Since the "C" in Chelsea comes before "M" in Manchester, Chelsea will then finish above Manchester United.
CG : Um......weird but true.
JT : Ya. So this is how I got my captaincy. Before Ferdinand left the office, he asked McClaren angrily,"If I stick my finger into your ass, do you know what will happened". Then McClaren replied, "Remember to wash your finger before you eat your food". Ferdinand got nothing to say after that.
CG : Ha...Ha....Anyway, I will want to congratulate you again on the captaincy. Good luck.
JT : Thanks. Bye.
