A Short Farewell Coversation (Between Ferguson and Van. Nistelrooy)

Finally, after months of cold war, Van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United for Real Madrid for an estimated Euro$15mil price. Before he bid his final farewell to Old Trafford, he bumped into Alex Ferguson who was back in his office to get some work done. Van Nistelrooy just have to confront the man one last time to find out why he was left on the cold.

V.Nistelrooy : It is God's will for me to see you again. Because He wants me to find out the truth...the truth on why I was left on the bench for so long.

A. Ferguson : Oh.....Yes, maybe. Maybe, you need to know the truth. Since the deal is done, I can now review the truth.

V.N : Tell me.

A.F : You are a good player. One of the best striker in Europe. Your scoring rate is tremendous but I realised that age is catching up on you, so something has to be done.

V.N : But I am still scoring and I can still run at defenders.

A.F : Maybe now, but I think in the next six months, your speed will come down by about 5 to 10% and probably another 10% in one year's time.

V.N : How can you say that? I mean what test did you do on me to deduce this theory?

A.F : I was having lunch with Eidos Game software General Manager few months back and we were talking about our squad and he mentioned you. He says that for their updated version of the Championship Manager, your stats will not be as good as the previous year.

V.N : What you mean?

A.F : Your speed and pace will be down at the start of the new season and will subsequently decrease over the season. Also, the software predicted that you have a high chance of injury and will be out for up to 9 months if you continue to stay in Man United.

V.N : And you believe this game thing? Crap right?

A.F : I didn't want to but after I spoke to David Gill(CEO), both of us think that we cannot afford to take the risk. We are already very tight with our budget and if we don't cash in on you, we can't buy new players.

V.N : This is bull-shit. Ok....ok....so did the game engine predicted that I will join Real?

A.F : Surprising, it did. And it predicted that you will be the top scorer of the Spanish League for 06/07. This was the reason why Real was willing to raise their offer from Euro$10mil to $15mil.

A rather bemused Van Nistelrooy, not knowing whether he should smile or feel bitter, walked away to his car and drove off to the Manchester Airport.
