Why the English FA decides not to appoint Scolari as Manager

It was reported that Scolari pulled out of the race to be the England Manager after Sven Eriksson. Scolari cited that it was due to the threats he has received and thus does not want to take up the job even though he will receive similar salary as what Eriksson is getting now. I received another version of the reason why he has not taken the job and it seems to be something similar to what we are seeing in Singapore.

In the first meeting between Scolari and a English FA rep at the English FA office.
.........................
Scolari : Yes, I am interested in the England job

Eng FA Rep: Good, we know you are a good manager and will be glad to offer you the job

Scolari : Can you show me the contract terms

Eng FA Rep: Here you go. It will be a 5yrs term and you will be paid 3mil a year.
Scolari : I am fine with the 5yrs term but I will require 5mil per year and fully paid for accomodation in London.

Eng FA Rep: That shouldn't be much be a problem. Let me go back and work it out.

Few days later at the meeting with the England FA Chairman.......

Eng FA Rep : Hello Mr.Scolari. The FA has decided to give you what you have requested

Scolari : I am glad to hear that. I am ready to sign then.

Eng FA Rep: Let me read to you the details.

Scolari : Ok.

Eng FA Rep: Your contract will be for 5yrs and you will be paid 5mil a year. You will also get a fully paid and furnished accomodation in uptown London.

Scolari : Ha...ha....I am happy to hear that. You English are really generous. And is it correct to say that my bonus is peg at 10%?

Eng FA Rep: Ur....No. Your salary of 5mil includes your bonuses and all other monetary perks.

Scolari : How can that be? I told your Eng FA rep that the bonus should not be part of the salary of 5mil. Are you out to cheat me? Do you know the consequences?

Eng FA Rep: I don't believe that this was discussed. There must be some error or misunderstanding. Mr. Scolari, why don't you come with me to the security room.

At the security room.....
Eng FA Rep : Mr.Scolari, here is the CCTV showing our conversation few days back. See, I took out the contract to show you what we initially offered. Then you give a thumbs up to say that you like the 5years term. Then you show 5 fingers to say that you want a 5mil salary. Then, you used both your hands to show a triangular sign to say that you want a paid accomodation. You did not say anything about the bonus.

Scolari : Oh, it looks like I did not tell you about the bonus.

Just then, the English FA Chief walks in. He was briefed of the discussion earlier.
Eng FA Chief : So, Mr.Scolari. Why did you say that you have requested for the bonus when you have not?

Scolari : It may be because I was too busy with the Portuguese team preparation and missed some of the details.

Eng FA Chief : I believe you should explained more in detail.

Scolari : I am sorry, I don't mean for this to happen. Can we move on and sign the contract?

Eng FA Chief : I am afraid I can't unless you explain clearly what was the reason that you have said that you asked for bonus when in fact you have not?

Scolari : I am really sorry. If my actions may have caused distress to you staff, I will like to apologise.

Eng FA Chief : If there were no CCTV, you might have gone out to malign the FA and later go to the media and tell them bad things about us.

Scolari : I have no comments to this. I just want to move on to discuss about the contract. I think we have bigger issues to discuss.

Eng FA Chief : I cannot, because this matters with the integrity of my staff and also your character. I am very concern. I need to answer to the fans. The fans will not want someone who is dishonest to manage the team.

Scolari : I think the fans can decide after they see how I manage the team.

Eng FA Chief : I don't think we should go into that. Let's end the discussion here.

Scolari : If this is what you want. As I have mentioned, it is an honest mistake on my part.
